Do Yetis exist?
Called by many names, the Yeti is a globally disputed creature. Is it just a tale, or is it real?
Yeti is a word that comes from the local Tibetan language. Yeh-teh means a rocky bear or bear-like and is often used to describe a vast ape-like and furry creature that is tall and strong.
The Yeti has been fantasized about since 326 BCE when Alexander the Great allegedly requested to see one. It is known to be seen only in the Tibetan and Himalayan regions, they supposedly live in higher altitudes and are only found in cold regions.
Is it like Chicken tikka masala ( a Western obsession and interpretation) or is it real?
It is part of ancient history books and generational stories in Buddhist culture. The groundbreaking and most popular discovery of its footprints was by Eric Shipton and crew in 1951. This made it popular, and soon people went hunting for it. The Yeti mania had begun. This creature was famously mentioned in a Twitter post by the Indian army in April 2019, they had claimed to see its footprints near the Makalu base camp.
Locals from these areas do believe in the Yeti's existence, but unfortunately, no one has found concrete proof or scientific evidence of this creature's existence.
Today, all I can say is, it could exist and it could not exist, because normally if people were scared of something they wouldn't click photos, they would run. Maybe that is why we have no photos or videos, just interpretations.
If I were to give you my honest opinion, I would say they may exist, after all, they are monkey/bear-like creatures that troll around high-altitude mountains. Nevertheless, I still wouldn't believe in all the scary and stereotypical descriptions of it. But then again, I'm no scientist.
